Even Money is a crime film released in 2007. The film centers around Carolyn Carver (Kim Basinger), a wife, mother and author. Carolyn's family believes she is working on a new book, so she is often away from him. In reality, she has a secret gambling problem. Carolyn meets Walter, (Danny DeVito), a former magician who now entertains casino guests. Walter is also a gambler. Eventually, Carolyn's husband finds out about her problem and becomes upset. Victor (Tim Roth) is a criminal who tells Walter about an upcoming fixed basketball game. Thinking that the game is rigged, Walter and Carolyn bet everything they own on the outcome of the game. Little do they know that they are about to get involved in a life of mobsters, crooked cops and angry criminals. Even Money also features Nick Cannon as Godfrey Snow, a college basketball player and Kelsey Grammar as Detective Brunner, a detective who is hunting down Victor.

Metacritic Score

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times

The film's subject is not race but gambling, yet the cynical message is the same: We're all pathetic.

  • 40

    Variety Robert Koehler

Standard-issue directorial approach is perfectly in keeping with a script whose natural berth is on the tube.

  • 30

The New York Times Stephen Holden

A scare movie about gambling addiction, is as grim and lurid as any in the recent spate of films about the evils of crystal meth.
