Event Horizon is a science fiction film from 1997. The film takes place in the year 2047. In 2040 an explorer ship named Event Horizon disappeared into deep space. Seven years later there is a garbled signal coming from the ship that sounds like a call for help. A group of astronauts and scientists form a rescue team headed by Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne). Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill), the designer of the Event Horizon, is also on board. Travelling through the darkness of space, the team finds the Event Horizon near Neptune and docks next to the ship. The team sets out to inspect the ship and find any survivors. The high-tech equipment shows Event Horizon's temperature is sub-zero, too cold for life. The equipment also shows that there is life on board, but the team is not sure what kind of life. The outstanding special effects and visual effects add to the edginess of the film.

Despite game efforts from a first-rate cast and acres of impressive production values, Event Horizon remains a muddled and curiously uninvolving sci-fi horror show.

The screenplay creates a sense of foreboding and afterboding, but no actual boding.
