1990
Rating:
R
Everybody Wins is a psychological thriller about a private investigator who is hired to clear the name of an innocent teenager in jail. According to Angela Crispini (Debra Winger), Felix Daniels (Frank Military), a young teen sitting jail for the murder of the uncle, is innocent, so she hires private investigator Tom O'Toole (Nick Nolte) to get to the bottom of it. The gritty P.I. is hesitant to get involved in the very controversial case, but is quite taken with Angela, and puts his best foot forward. What O'Toole soon uncovers is a web of corruption in the local government of this small Connecticut town, from the police to the State's attorney. It is apparent that Felix was framed for the murder, but what is still unclear is Angela's connection to the case. As O'Toole continues his investigation, he discovers that Angela is indeed very connected, and his growing feelings for the troubled woman could put his and the lives of those around him in jeopardy. Karel Reisz directs this very cerebral thriller penned by famous playwright Arthur Miller, based on his own stage play.moreless
