Everybody's All-American is a 1988 drama about two decades in the life of a football player. Gavin Grey (Dennis Quaid) is a star running back at Louisiana State University. He appears to have a perfect life, happily spending his time away from the field with his girlfriend, Babs (Jessica Lange), and best friends, Donnie (Timothy Hutton) and Ed (John Goodman). After ending his college career as a hero, he is drafted by the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. As expected, he and Babs get married and immediately decide to start a family. Grey's career in the NFL, however, is not nearly as bright as it was during college. He struggles with the level of competition and the grueling schedule, ultimately resigning himself to the fact that he is destined to be a serviceable but unspectacular player. Babs, Donnie and Ed each experience their own troubles as well, as all learn that the best of times do not last forever.
