Eyewitness is a 1981 suspense thriller about a janitor, Daryll Deever (William Hurt), who gets wrapped up in the murder investigation of a Vietnamese businessman that takes place in the building where he works. Daryll lives a drab life and spends most of his time alone, but has an obsession with a local news reporter, Tony Sokolow (Sigourney Weaver). When Daryll sees her reporting on the murder, he pretends to know more about the murder than he really does. He hopes this will catch the attention of Tony so he can get closer to her. For her part, Tony is married to an Israeli intelligence agent (Christopher Plummer), whose mission is to spirit Jews out the Soviet Union. What starts off as a simple way to get the attention of Tony, ends up getting Daryll wrapped up in an intricate and dangerous plot that may or may not have something to do with Tony's husband. Eyewitness is directed by Peter Yates from a screenplay by Oscar winner Steve Tesich.moreless
