Ezra, a drama based on Sierra Leone's bloody civil war, follows a child soldier as he grows up during the conflict. Ezra (Mamoudou Turay Kamar) is abducted from school when he is six years old and becomes a leader in the People's Revolutionary Front just seven years later. By the time he is 16, he is called before his country's Truth and Reconciliation Commission to account for his actions during the war. Through the Commission's questioning, Ezra relives his participation in a 1999 attack on his home village. In flashbacks, Ezra recounts the preparations for the attack, including amphetamine injections for the soldiers, and his memories of the raid. When faced with the fate of his family, Ezra struggles to come to terms with his actions, alternating between justification and denial. Yet, in the eyes of the Commission, he must take responsibility for his crimes so that he can make peace with himself and rejoin society. Ezra won the Grand Prize at the 2007 Festival Panafricain du Cinema Ouagadougou and was shown during International Critics Week at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.moreless

The film is so committed to its view of Ezra as a pawn in the psychotic game of postcolonial Africa that he is never allowed, as a character, to become more than a pawn.
