Movie Summary

Director:
Bent Hamer
Released:
2005
Rating:
R
Factotum is the acclaimed drama taken from Charles Bukowski's loosely autobiographical novel of the same name, which is an inside and comical look at the life of a struggling artist. Henry Chinaski (Matt Dillon, There's Something About Mary, The Outsiders, Wild Things) is a wistful writer who wants nothing but to be able to pursue his art absent the obligation of earning bum paychecks to pay the rent. To this end, he stays at whatever job he's at ' pickle bottling factory in one instance ' until he can tolerate it no longer and then goes on to the next. During this nomadic existence, he loses himself in benders of boozing, broading and general debauchery to keep him sane as he goes on from one outrageous episode to the next. He keeps a regular girl, Jan (Lili Taylor, The Haunting, Say Anything, Ransom) around for recreational sex and they become something of a strange support system for one another. Also starring Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny).moreless
