Fanny is a 1961 film directed by Joshua Logan and details a reemerging love triangle that spans decades. In the film, young Fanny (Leslie Caron) has been in love with Marius (Horst Buchholz) for many years, but Marius' only love is the sea and his hopes of becoming a sailor. On the eve before Marius plans to finally set sail to his dreams, Fanny is proposed to by another man named Panisse (Maurice Chevalier). Fanny declines the proposal and runs into the arms of Marius and confesses her undying love for him and tells him that she will wait for him until he returns. Although reluctant at first Marius set sails and leaves Fanny behind. Fanny soon realizes that she is pregnant and for the baby's sake she decides to marry Panisse. Years later, Marius returns to find his girl and the son he did not know he had taken by another man. Panisse tells Fanny that she can go with Marius if she wants to but the baby stays with him.
