Farewell My Lovely is a 1975 mystery criminal thriller directed by Dick Richards and based on the novel written by Raymond Chandler. It tells the story of a restless private detective and his adventures during his work on an awkward case gone wrong. Philip Marlowe (Robert Mitchum) is assigned the job to find a night club dancer who is the former girlfriend of Moose Malloy (Jack O'Halloran), an outlaw who has just been released from prison. As it turns out, finding Velma is one of Marlowe's toughest cases as it puts him in situations he has never been. Tracking Velma involves Marlowe in a necklace theft, a controversial murder and even in a suspicious affair with Helen Grayle (Charlotte Rampling), a woman married to a wealthy man, but still looking for excitement and adventure. The detective must use all his knowledge and investigative expertise to get out of this mess clean and continue his work. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Sylvia Miles.moreless
