Fast Break is a 1979 comedy about beating even the unlikeliest odds. David Greene (Gabe Kaplan) works at a New York delicatessen, but can't forget his days as a junior high basketball coach. David believes he still has some coaching strength left and, determined to prove himself, becomes the coach at a small, struggling liberal arts college in Nevada. With a salary of $60 for every game the team wins, David has extra incentive to push his team to glory. David patches together a team of misfits, including Swish (Mavis Washington), a determined young woman who disguises herself as a man to win a basketball scholarship, creating much confusion among the teammates who don't know her secret. Preacher (Michael Warren) is hiding out from some dangerous enemies, while D.C. (Harold Sylvester) is also a fugitive who has reasons to disguise his identity. With a basketball team where everyone is keeping secrets or hilariously failing, David still manages to lead the team to glory. But with a match against the toughest basketball team on the circuit, the team has to step up the game or risk losing all their glory.moreless
