Fellini Satyricon is a 1968 fantasy drama directed by the legendary Federico Fellini. The film takes place in Rome in the first century. It follows two student friends, Ascilto (played by Hiram Keller) and Encolpio (Martin Potter), who are arguing about the ownership of a boy named Gitone (played by Max Born). This causes the friends to split up and divide their belongings. The boy is allowed to choose which friend to go with. He goes with Ascilto. This decision throws Encolpio into emotional turmoil. He tries to commit suicide but is stopped by a sudden earthquake. Encolpio then goes through a series of adventures and eventually meets Ascilto again. The two of them help a man kidnap a hermaphrodite demi-god from a temple. The demi-god dies and Encolpio becomes impotent as punishment. So now Encolpio and Ascilto must go in search of a cure. The film is based on the book Satyricon by Gauis Petronius Arbiter. The book survives only in fragments and this film reflects that, down to having characters stop talking in mid sentence.moreless
