While living in a village near Mexico's Lake Patzcuaro, Felipe Rivera (Richard Conte) is approached by a wounded guerilla leader named Durango (Lee J. Cobb), who persuades Felipe to hide him from Colonel Alvarado (Rodolfo Hoyos). In retaliation for Felipe's assistance to the guerillas, Colonel Alvarado murders his entire family and burns down his home. After the tragedy, Felipe moves to El Paso, Texas, where he trains to become a boxer. He soon befriends a group of exiled Mexican guerillas who are trying to overthrow the dictator of Mexico, President Porfirio D''az. When Durango is captured by Colonel Alvarado, the guerillas choose Felipe to rescue him.
