Fighter is the adapted tale of the young boxer and brave revolutionary Felipe Rivera (Richard Conte), who fights in the ring to avenge his massacred family. Heavily inspired by the novel The Mexican by Jack London, Felipe is the son of two Mexican nationals murdered by strike breakers hired by the tyrannical Mexican government. Surviving only by making the difficult choice of leaving both his parents and his girlfriend behind in the slaughter, Felipe escapes to Texas, hiding with antigovernment forces. The traumatic events of his past set Felipe on a path of revenge. Fueled by his desire to end the government that killed his parents, Felipe beats his opponents in the ring, hoping to make enough money to afford the weapons needed by Durango (Lee J Cobb), leader of the rebels. Aided by his companion, the widow Kathy (Vanessa Brown), Felipe quickly rises through the ranks of the boxing arena.
