Finding Forrester is a 2000 American film that chronicles the friendship between high school student Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) and the reclusive writer William Forrester (Sean Connery). After Jamal is dared to sneak into the apartment of Forrester, he accidentally leaves his backpack behind. When it is later returned to him, he finds that Forrester has made notes in his journal and on his homework about how to improve. Jamal and Forrester work together to improve his writing, which is already the best in his class. Jamal is approached by a prestigious private school that offers him a scholarship for both his intellectual and basketball abilities. When Jamal enters a writing contest and uses one of Forrester's stories as inspiration, he is called out for plagiarism. Forrester then makes an appearance at the contest and tells the school that Jamal should not be suspended, for the story was written with Forrester's permission. Forrester then reveals that he is moving back to his homeland of Scotland and Jamal learns how to cope with his absence. Also starring F. Murray Abraham, Anna Paquin, Busta Rhymes, Michael Pitt, and Matt Damon, Finding Forrester was directed by acclaimed director Gus Van Sant.
