Fire on the Mountain, released in 1996, is a black and white documentary film about the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division. This group of intensively trained and honorable mountaineers, skiers, and mountain climbers fought in wars against the Nazis during the final days of World War II. This little known story of the only U.S. troops trained for mountain combat is told chronologically from the discovery of the sport of skiing in the 1930's, the intense training in the Colorado Rockies, and into the battle on the Riva Ridge in the Italian Alps. With amazing skill and perseverance these incredible men captured a position in the European Theater. With a follow up of the men after the war, Fire on the Mountain, directed by Beth and George Gage, is a must see for history and adventure buffs alike; it tells the story of great courage, honor, and the love for a country.
