Fires Within, also known as Little Havana, is a 1991 dramatic thriller directed by Gillian Armstrong and written by Cynthia Cidre, which tells the story of a man's attempt to overcome political turmoil in his native country and reunite with his family. Nestor (Jimmy Smits) strongly opposes the communist regime in Cuba and gets arrested for promoting his views among other freedom fighters. His wife Isabel (Greta Scacchi) manages to escape from the country with their daughter and settle in the United States, helped by an American fisherman, Sam (Vincent D'Onofrio). Eight years later, Nestor is released from prison and manages to arrive in Miami to meet his family. Unfortunately, things have changed dramatically since his imprisonment. Isabel has a romantic affair with Sam, her savior, while Nestor's daughter does not remember her father at all. Nestor struggles to choose between repairing his marriage and continuing the fight for his country's freedom and prosperity.
