Five Miles to Midnight is a 1962 French-Italian-American film directed by Anatole Litvak and starring Sophia Loren and Anthony Perkins. Robert (Perkins) is a former soldier that met his wife Lisa (Sophia Loren) when he was serving in Italy. They live in Paris, and Robert struggles to hold down a job. He regularly beats Lisa. When she drops him off at the airport for him to go to an interview, she tells him that she no longer wants to be with him. She later hears news of the plane crashing with no one surviving. Robert, however, did survive and comes back to Lisa telling her that as soon as his life insurance claim is processed he will leave her forever. Lisa has fallen for David (Gig Young), who knows nothing of Lisa's secrets. When the insurance claim goes through, Lisa finds a way to get her revenge on her unsuspecting husband.
