Five Weeks In A Balloon chronicles the adventures of Professor Ferguson (Cedric Hardwicke), a British adventurer who sets out to fly across the African continent in a hot air balloon. He has invented a mechanism that controls the balloon's altitude without throwing away ballast or releasing hydrogen. This trip is considered highly dangerous, and Ferguson is urged not to go. He doesn't listen. Accompanied by his best friend, Donald O'Shay (Red Buttons) and his servant, Jacques (Fabian), Ferguson sets off. During his journey, Ferguson finds the source of the Nile, rescues a missionary from a tribe of cannibals and even escapes the pursuit of a rogue band of mercenaries. This film is based on one of the first books by famed author, Jules Verne. This particular novel features all the pieces of Verne's world-famous formula for writing compelling, but factually accurate adventure books that have captured the imaginations of readers for hundreds of years.
