Flawless is the story of the budding friendship between conservative police officer Walter Koontz (Robert De Niro) and his neighbor, drag queen and transsexual Rusty (Philip Seymour Hoffman). One night in his home, Walter, a highly decorated police officer, hears gunshots coming from the floor above his. As he rushes upstairs to confront the perpetrators, he suffers from a stroke. He wakes to realize that the right side of his body is partially paralyzed, leaving him with a permanent limp. His vocal cords are also paralyzed, resulting in a severe speech impediment. His doctor recommends singing lessons to improve his speech, and Walter turns to his neighbor Rusty for help. Having completely different lifestyles and attitudes, Walter and Rusty have to deal with their prejudices against each other. A friendship slowly forms as the pair move past their differences and realize the similarities that they share. De Niro and Hoffman both bring stunning performances to this film as they learn to accept themselves and each other.moreless
