Flesh & Blood, also known as The Rose and the Sword in its early VHS release, is a 1985 film by the award-winning director of RoboCop and Total Recall, Paul Verhoeven. The year is 1501 in Italy where a group of mercenaries kidnap Princess Agnes, the beautiful young daughter of an aristocrat, who is soon to be married to Steven, the son of Italy's rightful ruler, Arnolfini (Fernando Hillbeck). The mercenaries launch a coup d'etat against Arnolfini leady by Martin (Rutget Hauer), in order to take away his thrown. While holding Agnes in captivity, Martin finds himself attracted to her beauty and intelligence. They soon find themselves in love with each other. However, Agnes' change of alliance to the enemy is doubtful. Is she manipulating Martin or does she truly loves him? Meanwhile, Steven, with his father's troops, goes after the mercenaries who took his beloved Agnes away regardless of the plague that is weakening his troops. He has to pursue Martin and win Agnes back.moreless
