Fletch was a 1985 comedy film based on Gregory Mcdonald's popular novels. Irwin M. Fletcher (Chevy Chase) is an investigative reporter who believes in getting very involved in his stories, which he writes under the name of Jane Doe. While deep undercover as a beach bum for a report about drug dealing, he's approached by a rich man named Alan Stanwyk (Tim Matheson). The man asks Fletch to kill him for $50,000 and explains that he has an inoperable form of cancer and he wants to make sure his wife will get his life insurance money. Fletch tells him he'll do it, even though he's suspicious of Stanwyk's motives, and they arrange to meet up later. In that time, Fletch looks into Stanwyk's background and stumbles upon an even bigger story involving corruption, the police department, drug trafficking and a mysterious piece of land in Utah. In 1989, a sequel to the film, entitled "Fletch Lives", was released.
