Flight of the Lost Balloon is a romantic adventure film directed by Nathan Juran that centers on Doctor Faraday (Marshall Thompson), an American adventurer in Africa who is sent on a mission to find a missing scientist in the jungles. Since no motor plane could ever get through the high expanses of trees, Faraday utilizes a giant hydrogen balloon to scour the wilderness for the lost Sir Hubert (Douglas Kennedy). It would have been an easy task if not for a mysterious witch doctor named Hindu (James Lanphier) did not try his hardest to gain control of the balloon, even as the balloon comes under attack by brutal condors, African cannibals, and an unwanted guide. Inspired by the many wild jungle adventures shared in the stories of the fantastical adventure writer Jules Verne, Flight of the Lost Balloon is classic film rarely seen today by an excellent director.
