Fly Away Home is a 1996 drama directed by Carroll Ballard. After the tragic death of her mother in a car accident, 13-year-old Amy Alden (Anna Paquin) must go live on a small farm in Canada with her estranged father named Thomas (Jeff Daniels) and his girlfriend, Susan (Dana Delaney). One day, Amy discovers an abandoned nest of geese eggs in a field next to her home and places them in an incubator to help them survive. When they hatch, the geese instantly imprint on Amy, whom they consider to be their mother, and begin to follow her everywhere she goes. At first, everybody thinks that the behavior of the geese is harmless, but Thomas comes to realize that the geese will not be able to fly South for the winter without a real mother to teach them the route. When they learn that a local game warden (Jeremy Ratchford) is determined to confiscate the geese, Thomas, Susan, and Amy must hatch a daring plan to teach the geese how to migrate.moreless
