Flying Tigers is a 1942 film that focuses on the group of pilots during World War II. While the Flying Tigers were real pilots, this movie is a fictionalized account of their expeditions. Captain Jim Gordon (John Wayne) leads a band of mercenary pilots to China during WWII, where they are hired to help fight the Japanese. Taking place two years prior to United States' involvement in the war, the film centers on the conflict that arises between Cpt. Gordon and young hotshot pilot Woodrow 'Woody' Jason (John Carroll). After several instances of failure to obey orders, Woody only further increases tension between himself and Cpt. Gordon by vying for the love of the same nurse that is Cpt. Gordon's romantic interest. The plotline of the story arcs as Woody becomes responsible for the death of another pilot, and the tensions between him and the Captain reach an all time high.
