Follow the Fleet is a 1936 musical and romantic comedy directed by Mark Sandrich that centers on the colorful life of Navy sailors and their mainland girlfriends. Bake Baker (Fred Astaire) is a former dance performer who enlisted in the Navy but is now back in town when his ship docks in a San Francisco port. He is visiting his girlfriend and former dance partner, Sherry Martin (Ginger Rogers), hoping to reignite their relationship. He is joined by his sailor friend, Bilge Smith (Randolph Scott), who soon finds himself in the arms of Sherry's charming sister, Connie (Harriet Hilliard). She is deeply enthusiastic about her relationship with Bilge and fantasizes about a possible marriage. Bilge realizes he must leave to avoid breaking Connie's heart. The sailors must return to their ship for a new destination. Bake is back after another deployment and tries to pursue his dream of performing together with Sherry on Broadway.
