For a Lost Soldier is a 1992 Dutch drama about a boy who experiences a life-changing romance in 1944 with a Canadian soldier who has liberated the boy's town. The film is adapted from the autobiography of Rudi van Dantzig, a ballet choreographer and dancer who still recalls fondly his young love of Walt Cook. In the film, van Dantzig is portrayed by young actor Jeroen Krabbe as Jeroen, and Walt Cook is played by Andrew Kelley. The relationship between the soldier in his early 20s and the young boy is surrounded with unspoken disapproval, but in the chaos of the war, what joy the two can find together is accepted by the other villagers. The film features an original score from composer Joop Stokkermans. For a Lost Soldier is a thought provoking coming of age tale about an unexpected and forbidden romance between two young men during the second Great War.
