For Keeps is a 1988 drama starring Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles) and directed by John G. Avildsen. The story takes place in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where Darcy Elliot (Molly Ringwald) is an extremely intelligent high school senior. Darcy is the editor of her school's newspaper and has plans to go to college to study journalism. Darcy's boyfriend Stan Bobrucz (Randall Batinkoff) has been accepted at Caltech, where he plans to study architecture. Darcy's best friend Lila (Sharon Brown) helps the young couple sneak away for a weekend alone together. Darcy and Stan make love and Darcy gets pregnant. The kids announce the pregnancy at Thanksgiving and neither Darcy's mom, whose husband abandoned her and forced her to raise Darcy on her own, nor Stan's strict Catholic parents want them to keep the baby. They want Darcy to have an abortion or give the child up for adoption. Against their parent's wishes the young couple decide to get married and keep the baby. Darcy and Stan quickly realize just how hard it is to raise a child.moreless
