Forbidden Kingdom is a 2008 American Kung Fu film directed by Rob Minkoff. The film follows the story of Jason Tripitikas (Michael Angarano), a teenager living in Boston, Massachusetts in the 21st century. Jason is obsessed with martial arts films, particularly Chinese films that feature a great deal of Kung Fu techniques. He is purchasing some such films in a South Boston pawn shop when a group of masked men attempt to rob the store. The store's owner, Hop (Jackie Chan), attempts to fend the thieves off with a staff and is severely wounded. Hop gives Jason the staff and entrusts him with returning it to its rightful owner. Jason flees, but the thieves catch him; however, his life is saved when the staff forces him to fall off of a tall building. Jason is knocked unconscious in the fall and awakens in Ancient China. He soon discovers that many of the Chinese legends that he holds dear are unfolding around him, and that he is at the center of it all.moreless

On its own terms, it's a handsome albeit unexceptional juvenile adventure shot on some magnificent Chinese locations.
