Foreign Student is a dramatic film which was released in 1994. The movie takes place in the United States during the 1950's. Philippe Leclerc (Marco Hofschneider) is a foreign exchange student who moves to southern United States from France. He goes to high school where he plays on the varsity football team and is submerged in American culture. Philippe eventually meets a beautiful black girl who also attends the same high school named April (Robin Givens). Philippe and April feel a strong attraction toward one another, and quickly fall madly in love despite the social attitudes toward interracial relationships at the time. Philippe is somewhat ridiculed by fellow classmates for dating a 'colored girl', but Philippe does not take these social implications into account; he simply wants to be with April regardless of what people think or say. April, however, is more sociologically aware, and realizes that they are unlikely to succeed as a couple.
