Formosa Betrayed is a 2009 political thriller directed by Adam Kane and is based on actual events. When FBI agent, Jake Kelly (James Van Der Beek) investigates the murder of a Taiwanese college professor, Henry Wen (Joseph Forunda), in the U.S., he uncovers a deep conspiracy. Jake follows the trail of the killers to Taiwan and is partnered with Susan Kane (Wendy Crewson), an American diplomat who is supposed to keep an eye on him and teach him Taiwanese customs and manners. Jake also gets help from Taiwanese pro-independence activist, Ming (Will Tiao). Jake begins to suspect that the Taiwanese government ordered the hit that killed Wen to silence his teachings. This knowledge could damage U.S relations with Taiwan. The trio begins to work together and uncovers a complex plot surrounding the U.S. government, the government of Taiwan, and the Chinese mafia who are all involved in oppressing the people of Taiwan.
