Fort Massacre is a gritty war drama about an angry Sergeant that leads his troops into dangerous battles with Apache troops. After all the superior officers are killed, Sgt. Vinson (Joel McCrea), a loyal soldier of C Troop, is obliged to take control of the remaining American forces, in a fight against the Apaches in 1979 New Mexico. Vinson, a staunch hater of Indians after they murdered his wife, leads his troops into areas populated with enemy Apaches, much to the chagrin of his loyal company of men. Losing valuable soldiers with each subsequent battle, the troops march into the aptly named Fort Massacre, meeting a strong and mighty group of Apaches, and setting the stage for an epic battle that it almost certain to end in tragedy. Joseph M. Newman directs this very masculine and hard nosed drama, tragically depicting war's effects on the psyche and sanity of its soldiers.
