Four Faces West is a film that takes a look at the complexity of character of an outlaw passing through the wild west of New Mexico. Based on a short novel, 'Paso Por Aqui' by Eugene Manlove Rhodes, the film also incorporates a historically important rock near Zuni, New Mexico that was written on in 1709 by a passing conquistador as one of its themes. Ross McEwen (Joel McCrea) times his bank robbery in a small town perfectly. The new sheriff is being congratulated on being hired, so Ross is able to sneak out of town with a captive that he later turns loose. Hopping a train and now injured, Ross hooks up with a woman and a gambler that get to know him and begin to help him as the law starts to catch up with him. As he is pursued, he stops to help a sick family; a deed which soon has positive repercussions for him.
