Four Friends is an intimate character study about a group of high school friends from East Chicago whose lives change notably during the 1960s. As the free love decade begins, a group of four close friends living in East, Chicago, Indiana, stand to witness dramatic change in their collective lives. Danilo (Craig Wasson), a Yugoslavian immigrant, longs to become a writer. Tom (Jim Metzler), a good looking kid who is a hit with the ladies, is headed towards a life in the military. And David (Michael Huddleston), an overweight, heady Jewish kid is conflicted about whether or not to stay in town and join the family mortuary business. Very close, the boys are in complete adoration of mutual friend Georgia (Jodi Thelen), a beauty who sees herself as the next Isadora Duncan, and longs for a more sexually adventurous life. While they all pursue her in their own way, only one can be with her, an point made ever so much more clear when she becomes pregnant. The close knit clan goes their separate ways, but when they reunite at the end of the decade, the true impact of the 60s are striking, and the bonds they share are put to the test. Arthur Penn directs this thought provoking and charming look at the true effects of the free love movement in the 1960s.moreless
