Jesse is now 16 and is suspicious of whale hunters which are getting dangerously close to Willy and his family. It's up to Jesse to fight for the right for Willy and his fellow whales to keep on living. The whalers are set on finding Willy and murdering him but not if Jesse, Randolph, Drew and Max can help it. The film also gives way to the birth of Willy's son, which Willy fathered with a female orca named Nikki. It's only with all of their mental prowess combined that they can stop the whaling ship, the Botany Bay, from murdering the beloved whale that has warmed the hearts of audiences for 4 films. The film was written by John Mattson, who also penned Milk Money and Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home and directed by Sam Pillsbury.
