Friends is a 1971 film written and directed by Lewis Gilbert about the fleeting nature of young love, portrayed through the experiences of two teenage lovers on a quest for happiness. Sean Bury plays Paul Harrison, a neglected English boy studying in France with a rich family. Paul can't relate to the people he lives with, and he yearns for a more satisfying and adventurous life. Anicee Alvina plays Michelle La Tour, who also feels out of place in her surroundings. She lives with her cousin who took her in after the sudden death of Michelle's parents. Michelle and Paul meet by chance in Paris. They quickly establish a friendship that stems from their shared displacement in proper society. On a whim, the young couple run off to the beautiful and wild Carmargue where Michelle's father owned a cabin. Finally alone in the wilderness, Michelle and Paul create a new life for themselves. Friends is a touching film about two young adults who build a home together, looking for the happiness the world had never offered.
