Gamers is a 2010 documentary on the worldwide phenomenon of MMO gaming. In the last 10 years, the evolution of the Internet has allowed a new type of video game, the massively multiplayer online game, to come into immense popularity. MMOs allow gamers to create personalized avatars to immerse in vast and persistent virtual worlds. Unlike classic games, victory in an MMO requires not only defeating one's foes, but also interacting cooperatively with up to tens of thousands of other players from around the worlds -- real and virtual. These are games with their own economies, traditions, and social hierarchies, and they have made a sizeable impact on contemporary culture. Filmmaker Ben Gonyo has been hearing it for years: "You'll never understand until you try it." In Gamers, Gonyo not only plays his first MMO, he collects interviews from a horde of fellow players, programmers, psychologists and celebrities to explore the hold these games have snagged over our imaginations.
