Gang in Blue is a 1996 crime thriller about racism on the police force. African-American police officer Michael Rhoades (Mario Van Peebles) tries to crack down on racism within his department, and is horrified to discover an entrenched and well-organized racist organization that is thriving in the police department. Rhoades has trouble obtaining credible evidence, so the FBI refuses to get involved in what it sees as a weak case. Left to his own devices, Rhoades teams up with sympathetic white neophyte Keith DeBruler (Josh Brolin) to expose the seedy underbelly of the "gang in blue." Although this film is not explicitly based on true events, viewers will find many parallels between the story and various highly publicized incidents of racially motivated police brutality. Gang in Blue also highlights the complex problems faced by law enforcement personnel who try to fight internal corruption and are repeatedly stymied by the "blue wall of silence." This film is an excellent - and often chilling - reflection on police corruption.moreless
