Gangster Story is a 1959 film written and directed by Walter Matthau who also stars in the film. Jack Martin (Walter Mattau) is a bank robber who has escaped from police custody. While hiding out in a hotel, Martin devises an elaborate plan to rob a bank right in front of police officers by pretending to be making a film. The bank robbery is successful, much to Martin's surprise, but ends up causing him more trouble than he planned. Earl Dawson (Bruce McFarlan) is the local crime boss who is mad that someone pulled a job in his territory, and madder still that the police are blaming him for the robbery. Dawson orders one of his men to find the real robber, leading Martin to go on the run. While on the run, Martin meets a woman, Carol Logan (Carol Grace), who tries to convince him to give up the gangster life and go straight. Jack Martin has to choose between his new-found love or the life of crime that has been his way of life for so long.moreless
