Garbo Talks is a 1984 comedy-drama directed by Sidney Lumet. Gilbert Rolfe (Ron Silver) is a devoted son, husband, and Manhattan accountant who will go to any length to grant his dying mother's wish. Estelle decides that she must meet the actress Greta Garbo before she dies, because she loves her films. Estelle Rolfe (Anne Bancroft), a gutsy, eccentric New Yorker, is Gilbert's mother who has just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given six months to live. Estelle thrives on protest, and she is willing to go to jail over grocery prices, won't cross a picket line to go to her son's wedding, and will stand up for whatever she believes. Gilbert loves his mother and wants to fulfill her dying wish no matter how impossible. He stakes out all possible locations where he might find Garbo. In the process of pursuing the reclusive Garbo, Gilbert loses his job, his wife Lisa Rolfe (Carrie Fisher), and his dignity. Will Gilbert find Garbo and if so will she talk to Estelle?
