Garden State is a film from 2004 that combines romance with drama and a little bit of comedy. Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) plays a young man who is looking for meaning in his life of nothingness. His father, Gideon Largeman (Ian Holm), just happens to be a therapist who prescribes ridiculous amounts of powerful antidepressants to the young man. When Andrew decides to return to his hometown for a funeral, his life changes, but is this change for the better? Andrew meets a girl whose emotional troubles are an even match for his own. This new relationship ends up being one of the best things for Andrew's life. He resists his father's wishes and refuses to take the prescriptions that his father has ordered. This denial opens up a whole new world for Andrew. This film shows how to overcome one's fears and the things that hold one back in life.
