Gas!, a.k.a It Became Necessary to Destroy the World in Order to Save It, is a 1970 science fiction film and satire of hippie culture directed by Roger Corman. After a chemical warfare plant in Alaska has a gas leak, everyone who is over 25 dies suddenly due to excessive damage to their neurons. With only young people left to run the world, the planet quickly degenerates into chaos. Coel (Bob Corff), a hippie trying to avoid the cops, and his scientist girlfriend, Cilla (Elaine Giftos), are heading to a commune in New Mexico that is supposedly a safe utopia open to all people. Along the way, they meet many strange fellow travelers, like Dr. Murder (Alan DeWitt), Edgar Allen (Bruce Karcher), and Raincoat Harry (Gary Kaplan). As Coel and Cilla begin to find many obstacles in their path, like a militant team of football players, will this pair of hippies and their friends ever reach the promised land?
