Gay Sex in the '70s is a 2005 documentary directed by Joseph F. Lovett that presents various aspects of gay culture and sex life in New York in the 1970s. After Stonewall in 1969 the gay community experiences an unprecedented freedom of expression and love life which leads to open manifestations of their beliefs and feelings. Gay men in New York celebrate their sexual orientation as their sex life begins to take multiple shapes. Cruising on the streets, sexual intercourse in bathrooms of clubs, night life in pubs and bars, drugs and alcohol are just a few of the rich and colorful nuances showed in the documentary that characterized the gay community of that period. It all comes to an end when first cases of AIDS are reported in 1981. The gay freedom movement and the public sex lifestyle slowly reduce in intensity with the appearance of this awful disease. Interviews and commentary from prominent members of the gay community, amateur movies and photographs take the viewer in the atmosphere of New York gay culture of the 70s.moreless
