Gene Autry Collection: Bells of Capistrano finds the singing cowboy in the middle of a heated rodeo competition. For years, Shag Johnson (Morgan Conway), owner of the Johnson Brothers rodeo, has been trying to gain control over the World-Wide Wild West Show run by Jennifer Benton (Virginia Grey). Johnson, it seems, has been working toward his goal by any means necessary. Gene, playing himself, and trusted friend Frog Millhouse (Smiley Burnette) arrive just in time. Gene steals the show with his singing and becomes a part of the World-Wide West Show sending profits through the roof. Infuriated, Shag Johnson tries to lure Autry with a big paycheck. Of course, he refuses leading Johnson to retaliate by trying to burn down Benton's rodeo injuring her father, Pa McCracken (Lucien Littlefield), in the process. Autry is faced with a choice: accept a big paycheck from Johnson to save the rodeo and Pa McCracken or stand on his morals and refuse. As always, Autry finds just the right solution to satisfy audiences.moreless
