Gene Autry Collection: Gaucho Serenade is a 1940 western film directed by Frank McDonald and starring Gene Autry, the famous singing cowboy. He sings the famous song A Song at Sunset in this film. The film follows Gene Autry and his sidekick Frog Milhouse as they leave New York City and head out west in a car with a horse trailer for Gene's horse named Champion. Hitching a ride with them is Ronnie Willoughby, a young boy who just got off a boat from England. He believes his father sent Gene and Frog to meet him. Ronnie believes his father is a big rancher out west. However he doesn't know that his father is really in San Quentin prison because of a frame job by the owners of a packing company. The packing company owners, Martin, Jenkins and Carter arranged to have the boy kidnapped to keep his father from testifying against them. Meanwhile as they all drive out west they are joined by Joyce Halloway, a runaway bride, and her young sister Patsy. They all sing and dance throughout.moreless
