Gene Autry Collection: Sioux City Sue is a 1946 musical western starring Gene Autry and directed by Frank McDonald. This movie marks Autry's return to the screen following his service in the Army Air Corps during WWII. In this film, Gene, playing his typical role as the "singing cowboy," finds himself in dire straits as his ranch is on the brink of financial ruin. He thinks that he has caught a break when he meets talent scout Sue Warner (Lynne Roberts) who offers him a job in Hollywood. However, the job turns out to be a role as the voice of an animated singing donkey. Embarrassed by the job, Gene returns home only to find that a gang of outlaws are threatening to blow up a dam and drown his cattle. Gene finds an unlikely partner in Sue, who was fallen in love with him and has followed him home. With her support, he must attempt to find money to save the ranch and protect it from the outlaws.moreless
