General Idi Amin Dada, directed by Barbet Schroeder, is a documentary telling the story of Idi Amin Dada, a former military leader and president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979. The troupe of Schroeder spent several days face to face with the African dictator, shooting interesting portions of the daily life of the General. General Idi Amin Dada is a documentary able to depict the daily routine of the African Republic, all revolving around the charismatic and powerful figure of Amin Dada, his iron grip on the country and his ambition of destroying Israel. The President wanted to personally participate in the making of the movie, overseeing the cutting and writing himself the lines of the dialogues. For this reason Schroeder decided to characterize his own work as a self-portrait. General Idi Amin Dada is the first documentary ever shot about the figure of the General and started a strand of documentaries and movies related to the undisputed leader of Uganda for almost a decade.moreless
