Georgia O'Keeffe is a 2009 biographical romance film directed by Bob Balaban and written by Michael Cristofer. The film offers a new insight into the life of the renowned American artist, most recognized for her revolutionary and abstract portrayals of flowers. Georgia (Joan Allen) comes from a humble background, teaching art at Texas schools and struggling for recognition as a genuine artist. In the 1910s, she worries that the world is not ready for a serious female artist. On a whim, Georgia sends a portfolio of her charcoal drawings to Alfred Sieglitz (Jeremy Irons), a New York gallery owner and artist. Surprised to receive such unusual and provocative work from a school teacher in Texas, Alfred decides to display the pieces at once. When he finally meets the unassuming but intelligent Georgia, it is the beginning of a tumultuous and often challenging love affair. While Georgia's fame grows by leaps and bounds, Alfred struggles with his controlling personality and his compulsion to cheat. As the arguments between the two grow in intensity, Georgia's future as an artist comes into jeopardy.moreless
