Get on the Bus is a film centered around one of the most controversial events in the history of the United States, that is, the Million Man March of 1995. During this event, hundreds upon thousands of African American men convened in Washington DC to rise up against the social, economical, and racial inequalities which plagued black communities across the country. One year later, director Spike Lee (Malcom X, Clockers) joint efforts with Reggie Rock Bythewood and created a film which portrayed many of the heartwarming individuals who travelled from Los Angeles to DC for this very cause. Characters include Jeremiah aka "Pop" (Ossie Davis), a connoisseur on black history; Evan & Evan Jr. aka "Smooth (Thomas Jefferson Byrd and De'aundre Bonds), a father and son court-ordered to remain by each other's side; Gary (Roger Guenveur Smith), a biracial cop; and former gangbanger Jamal (Gabriel Cassues), to name a few. As the men make their way across country, they tell of their personal experiences growing up in a racially biased environments. Get on the Bus provides an excellent account of a paramount moment in black history, be sure to watch!moreless
