Gettin' Square is an Australian comedy about an ex-con trying to turn his life around and stay out of trouble. In the film, Barry Wirth (Sam Worthington) is in prison but is up for early parole because he has been a model prisoner. He is determined to live his life the right way this time and keep himself from ever going back to prison again. His friend and prisonmate Johnny "Spit" Spitieri (Davie Wenham) is also being released and he too wants to keep out of trouble. Unfortunately, Spit's drug problem may be harder to overcome than he thinks. Their parole officer, Annie Flynn (Freya Stafford) finds them a job at the Texas Rose, which is a local restaurant owned by Darren Barrington (Timothy Spall). Darren is also an ex-con who has been able to turn his life around and Annie thought he would be a good influence for Barry and Spit. Problems arise when the past catches up with all three of the ex-cons and drug dealer Chicka Martin (Gary Sweet) tries to cause them problems and seek revenge. Staying out of trouble is not as easy as it looks, especially when an unethical accountant, a local crime boss and a crooked cop are out to get you.moreless
