Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone complex - The Laughing Man, written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is a 2005 compilation and rewriting of the Stand Alone Complex TV series. This anime film, starring the voices of Alison Mathews, Russell Roberts and David Kaye, is set in Japan in the year 2030 at a time where humans and technology have merged to form a race of people and cyborgs. The action revolves around a team of military and police detectives, known as the Public Security Section 9, who combine their skills in an attempt to bring down the genius cyber criminal the Laughing Man (Michael Adamthwaite). The Laughing Man is wanted for a stream of crimes that include corporate terrorism, blackmail and kidnapping. As Section 9 works to uncover the mysteries surrounding these incidents they learn that the Laughing Man's motives might have been justified. To uncover the truth, the team must decide if they are willing to go rogue and risk becoming enemies of the government.moreless
